Car insurance policyholders 'must look out for wheel misalignment'

Drivers who have recently searched for a car insurance quote online should take some time to check the tyres on their vehicle.

Research from wholesaler and retailer Micheldever and Protyre has suggested misaligned wheels could see motorists using more fuel than necessary, while a severe problem could lead to an accident.

Potholes that have formed as a result of recent freezing weather conditions can knock wheels out of line, while suspension and components can also be damaged during an encounter with uneven surfaces.

Simon Hiorns, retail director at the firm, said: "Potholes pose a very real safety threat to road users as well as spelling premature replacement cost for replacing tyres and possible wheels."

Meanwhile, car owners should also check the pressure of their tyres on a regular basis, as research from Schrader has revealed up to 90 per cent of those asked never undertake this maintenance task, which becomes more important during winter conditions when vehicles need more grip.
