Affordable insurance for Michigan residents with pre-existing conditions

SlideshowHealth professionals are getting the word out about a program that covers Michigan residents with pre-existing conditions.

It's called the Health Insurance Program, also known as HIP.

It's part of the Health Reform Act congress passed last year.

Michigan residents with pre-existing conditions including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses, can purchase more affordable insurance through the program.

Officials met at St. Mary's Health Education Center in Saginaw to tout the program.

Scott Wilkerson, administrator of HIP Michigan says, "It can provide critical access, in some cases life-saving access, to health insurance and provide real financial and emotional relief to those who have struggled to find affordable coverage."
