Insurance companies across the US are busy in recalculating their insurance rates for 2011, according to recent statements and reports from Massachusetts, New York, California, Texas and other states.

Massachusetts and New York Drivers Could Get Low-Cost Insurance Even When Premiums Up
In Massachusetts, Progressive Insurance Co., which could be one of the best discount auto insurers in the state, will raise corporate car insurance rates by 23.5 percent. This will be the company’s fifth commercial insurance rate increase in the state in the last three and a half years. Taxis, trucks and small business vehicles in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, Cambridge, Brockton and New Bedford will have to face higher insurance rates.
In New York, stricter laws for driving while talking on a mobile phone could drive up the costs of car insurance policies. Auto insurance companies may count the risks from the new laws in calculating insurance rates and raise premiums in the near future. This will have an impact on drivers in NYC, Buffalo, Rochester, Cheektowaga, Yonkers, Syracuse and Albany.
But residents in these states can still find cheaper solutions through discount insurance. For example, Progressive Insurance provides a program that allows car owners to pay less while drive less. This program can help a driver reduce his or her insurance premiums by up to 30 percent.
Texas and California Drivers Could Get Cheaper Insurance Rates
In California, insurance companies have started to cut their insurance rates. For example, Mercury cut more than 10 percent of their auto insurance rates for drivers in the state. State Farm Mutual and the Auto Club of Southern California have started to provide PAYG (pay as you go) services, which allow local residents to save auto insurance costs by reducing the number of miles they drive. Residents in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Long Beach and Santa Ana could have lower car insurance rates this year.
In Texas, insurance rates continued to decline in the last seven months. The average auto insurance premium for residents in Texas decreased 23.4 percent between June, 2010 and January, 2011, according to the CarInsurance.com Premium Index. Drivers in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin could enjoy cheap auto insurance premiums in 2011. But owners of the most stolen cars could still face high insurance rates.
