Most Auto Insurance Companies Not Yet Ready for Electric Cars : Insurance companies are just starting to adopt itself to hybrid electric cars, according to the study TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk has created, also indicating problem areas to both the insurers and the insured. Among those problems are questions about the car’s fuel and the allegedly skyrocketing prices of electric auto insurance.

On the other hand, the other two websites failed to give quotes because of the problem in discerning what fuels it: if either diesel or gas. When personally approached, only one of the two websites manually gave a price quote by determining the engine make. The second batch was composed of the ten biggest car insurance brokers were also asked as the second batch. However, only five of them managed to give quotes.
Another problem is the price, which stands from about £12,000 for a Mitsubishi i-MiEV and £3,499 for a Nissan Leaf, a quote under the profile of a 27-year old female driver with clean records. The lowest price for electric auto insurance stands at £763.83 for the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and £876.89 for the Nissan Leaf.
